Record-breaking Focus tops
chart
Figures
released by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) for the first
half of 2003 show the Ford Focus to be once again the country's
best-selling car. With 6,131 units, the award-winning Focus claimed 5.5%
of the market, ahead of the Toyota Corolla and VW Golf. The Focus and
Fiesta helped maintain Ford's position as the country's leading brand in a
market down 6.5% at 111,947 units.
"The
latest statistics reinforce Focus' standing as a veritable icon of modern
motoring," comments Eddie Murphy, Chairman and Managing Director,
Ford Ireland. "No other current car can compare with it for the
reception it has received from both the press and the general
public."
Sales
of the Focus in Ireland since its introduction have now topped 40,000 - a
record for a single model in a 5-year period. To mark Ford's 100th
anniversary, a special Centenary Focus was launched, together with
editions of Fiesta and Fusion. Limited to 100 individually numbered cars,
all feature a high level of specification and are available in black only.
